Serafim S3 Review: A gaming controller that turns your phone into a handheld console
The Serafim S3 looks and feels like a scaled-down console controller split in two. It stretches to fit your phone in the middle, creating a familiar layout with thumbsticks, triggers and proper grips on either side.
It comes with an extra set of interchangeable grips, which really make a difference. Whether you have larger hands or prefer something more compact, you can tailor the feel by choosing between deeper and shallower options. I preferred the deeper grips, as they suited my larger hands and offered a more textured, secure feel. I’m not entirely sure why the shallower grips have a smoother finish.
At just over 140 grams, it doesn’t add much weight to your gaming setup. The adjustable frame handles most modern phones comfortably, even with a slim case still on, which saves the hassle of constantly removing it.
Build quality is solid. Nothing creaks, nothing feels loose, and the buttons offer decent resistance.
Unlike Bluetooth controllers, which can introduce a slight delay, the S3 plugs directly into your phone’s USB-C port.
The S3 works with iOS, Android, PC, and more, and the Apple MFi certification ensures it works properly with newer iPhones without awkward workarounds.
Passthrough charging lets you keep your phone powered while playing, and the built-in headphone jack is handy if you prefer wired audio without dealing with adapters.
The Serafim app ties everything together. It’s where you can discover games, tweak settings, record gameplay and even stream directly. It’s not essential, but it adds another layer for anyone who wants more than just basic play.
The Serafim S3 is a real quality-of-life upgrade over touchscreen controls. Games that rely on quick reactions or precise input benefit the most. Shooters feel tighter, racing games are easier to manage, and anything with camera control becomes far less frustrating.
The wired connection means there’s no noticeable lag, which gives you a bit more confidence in competitive games. It’s the kind of difference you don’t always notice immediately, but once you do, it’s hard to go back.
Comfort holds up well over longer sessions, especially with the adjustable grips. It feels balanced, and your hands sit naturally rather than feeling cramped.
The Serafim S3 offers console-like controls compared to using touchscreen controls, especially if you play anything that demands precision. It’s responsive, comfortable and built with enough flexibility to suit a wide range of players.
